    Abstract

![CDATA[The two following interrelated chapters provide a detailed review of the literature relating to snull business training needs and information concerning the evaluation of programs directed toward the small business sector. The review indicates that a significant number of research reports have identified preferred forms of training by sn1all business owner/managers. However, training tends to follow traditional classroom, lecture orientated approaches, which are basically the inverse of the instruction methods consistently nominated by owner/managers. There is limited public information on the effectiveness of small business training programs, or on the frequency, form and outcomes of any course evaluations. This motivated a survey of 100 training providers seeking feedback on evaluation issues. The information presented in these chapters leads to several recommendations for policy consideration. These recommendations are presented in the section at the end of the following chapter. The main findings for both of these chapters can also be found at the end of the following chapter.]]
