Abstract
Being a man nowadays has become a difficult task. The multitude of discourses around masculinities as well as the several Feminist revolutions that took place in the last century have shaken up the social gender relationships - therefore the masculinities. Sport, as a phenomenon and a social space that constantly promotes hegemonic masculinity, must be aware of the gender issues that are incorporated by athletes in a daily basis. Though, the aim of this work was to analyse the talks of influential journalists from Brazilian Southeast who meet daily in a nationally broadcasted radio round-table. The preliminary findings of this paper demonstrate that these journalists are still prisoners of 19th century, stereotyped and restrictive gender rules which, in the 21st century, aim to put rigid boundaries on the athletes lifestyle.
