Social Work with Indigenous Communities: A Human Rights Approach

This book endeavours to move social work into a way of thinking that brings the Indigenous peoples of Australia to the vanguard. It is not a prescriptive text but calls upon social workers to reflect on the past, to analyse the present and to consider the future. There is an assumption that the readers will predominantly be social workers, social work students and other allied groups, who are the non-Indigenous majority. In this edition, I adopt a human rights framework as an explanatory scaffold. Human rights are gradually coming to the forefront of social work education, but application is not always evident. The book represents a modest attempt to link a human rights discourse with social work practice with Indigenous peoples and their communities.
