Abstract
For English horn and piano. Composed by Brett McKern. Sonatina is a recording of a work for cor Anglais commissioned by Sydney cor Anglais player and oboist Rachel Tolmie. The CD, On the Sorrow of War, shows the usual use of the cor Anglais: for mournful or melancholy music. The development in Sonatina was the request to use the cor Anglais not just in a contrasting way as a joyful instrument, but in a cheeky way. Here it is used in a sort of scherzo, suitable, as commissioned, for a concert encore.
