Abstract
In mainstream media and multimedia, sound has normally been subservient to text and image, and the potential interrelationship of the different media has not been fully exploited. However different media share transferable semiotic characteristics, may produce co-existent narratives, and can be technologically modified to enhance their exchange. We discuss the interplay between sound, spoken word, screened text and realtime image generation both at a theoretical level and with regard to creative works, particularly those of our multimedia ensemble, austraLYSIS.
