Abstract
In this paper, I employ a twofold theoretical background to explore the issues faced by Brazilian women’s footballers. On the one hand, I use a critical historical analysis of women’s football in the first two decades of the 21st century in South America to contextualize today’s obstacles faced by women in the football terrain in that continent; on the other hand, by employing also an in-depth ethnographic study with women’s football, that comprises interviews and participant observation, I connect current troubles to the historical roots that have been damaging women who dare play football in the country.
