Abstract

Stanley Wei, Harry Poon, William Jong, Fred Wong and Arthur Gar Lok Chang were prominent members of the Australian Communist Party’s (ACP) Chinese Branch, which carried out united front work in the Chinese community and supported Australian workers boycotting trade with Japan. Through the newly formed Australian section of the Chinese Seamen’s Union, they provided support and assistance to the many Chinese seamen stranded in Australia after the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor and occupation of French Indo-China, British Malaya and the Netherlands East Indies.
