Abstract
Place can be a source of comfort and belonging and a site of anxiety and shame. Our complex relationships with place are fundamental to our identity. Where do you come from? It is often the first question we ask of someone, without stopping to consider how deeply personal it is. For the writer, place is where they stand, it is the experience out of which they write, it provides the base of reference, the point of view.
