Abstract

It is my firm belief that how to write creatively can, to some extent, be worked out and therefore can be taught. This is because writing is not simply intuitive but also strategic, and conscious strategies release unconscious ideas. Most professional writers use a battery of strategies; writers who are interested in developing their writing and evolving their technique are constantly adding to their strategic collection. By strategising creativity, we can make aspirant writers more aware of the opportunities that are available and help them to develop their writing. This two-part essay is concerned with strategising creativity through experimentation; it also addresses the expansion of those strategies into multimedia and electronic forms. In the first part I suggest how we can partly demystify the process of creative writing so we can teach it.
