Abstract

Although numerous models for fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) confined concrete columns under concentric loading have been developed, an adequate stress-strain relationship for the columns under eccentric loading is unavailable in extant literature due to complication of the problem caused by strain non-uniformity. The analytical study in this work finds that not all major factors that affect the stressstrain relationship have been adopted in existing models. A total of 36 short columns were tested in this work with different load eccentricities and FRP jacket thicknesses. Through analytical study of the test results, a new stress-strain relationship considering load eccentricity is developed. It is found from this study that a stress-strain model developed for concentrically loaded columns is inadequate for columns under eccentric loading. The stress-strain curve under eccentric load exhibits significant stiffening.
