“Sudden, Temporary Deaths.” Island 165 (2022): 22-29. [Shortlisted for the 2022 Island Nonfiction Prize.] [3488 words]This is a work of creative nonfiction and was shortlisted for the Island nonfiction prize 2022. It undertakes an investigation about obsession, the “memory” of the nervous system, and the role and meaning of pleasure in human life. Island is one of Australia’s premier literary periodicals and has published authors of the stature of Les Murray, Gwen Harwood, Tim Winton, and Donald Horne.
