Abstract

The inflammatory response to surgical trauma characterized by systemic immune reaction and disruption of the glycocalyx-endothelial integrity within the microcirculation, manifests clinically as increased tissue permeability and oedema. Postoperative systemic inflammatory dysregulation (PSID), marked by sustained elevation of inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein (CRP), is associated with complications, poor quality of recovery, and persistent disability or death within 90 days postoperatively.
