    Abstract

Why are published works important? Collectively they document what we purport to know of mental health nursing. What we write about nursing now most likely “reiterates and reinforces what has been written before” (Maccallum, 2002, p. 92). Consequently what is printed can be deemed to be the truth—whether it is or not. This means analysis and opinion are there to be seen in published research and commentaries.
