Abstract
This chapter identifies a research gap: specifically, empirical studies to support the efficacy of educational institutions in their administrative compliance function of upholding standards of academic integrity. As part of addressing that gap, it advocates for research efforts that can contribute to the development of evidentiary standards. The purpose of this chapter, therefore, is to describe and contextualize the three evidentiary thresholds at which these evidentiary standards need to be applied. In so doing, the authors provide a common language for researchers to use, so that evidentiary standards can be accepted and applied consistently across educational institutions, sectors and jurisdictions.
