    Abstract

![CDATA[Physical activity participation is an important determinant of healthy ageing in older people. Recent evidence shows the graded health benefits of physical activity for the reduction of coronary heart disease, some forms of cancer, type-2 diabetes, injury reduction (including falls in the elderly), and mental health. Improved physical and psychological functioning through regular physical activity also results in improved quality of life in older adults. Older adults are at risk of inactivity, and they also contribute disproportionately to the burden on the New Zealand health care system.]]
