Abstract
This chapter explores key concepts of disability, challenges stereotypes and highlights the need for inclusive outdoor environments, equipping readers with the knowledge to create more accessible leisure opportunities. We discuss how societal attitudes, ableism and physical barriers continue to limit this participation, despite growing awareness of the importance of access to and inclusion in outdoor leisure-scapes for personal well-being. This chapter includes three narratives about people with disabilities and/or chronic illness/es and how they have navigated dominant discourses and structural barriers to outdoor leisure participation.
