Abstract
![CDATA[In this chapter, we first present a series of figures depicting the distribution of basal forebrain cholinergic neurons, overlaid on Nissl images of the same sections with standard anatomical delineations corresponding to the Franklin-Paxinos mouse atlas. Other sections in this chapter review the molecular specification and maintenance of cholinergic neurons in mice. The input-output relations of cholinergic and other local neurons will be discussed mainly based upon data in rats, supplemented with mouse data when available. Finally, we attempt to give an overview of mouse models of AD relating to loss or degeneration of cholinergic neurons.]]
