The beekeeper's ghost: democracy and transsovereignty in Zanny Begg's The Beehive

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

In Undoing the Demos, Wendy Brown argues that the application of market values to virtually every aspect of life erodes the democratic principles of equal treatment and equal protection. When "market competition becomes generalized as a social and political principle, some will triumph and some will die." The story of Juanita Nielsen's murder is a potent example of this dynamic between "winners and losers." Her tale is local, its implications global.
