Abstract
Financial pressure is a significant challenge for foster carers and may undermine the sustainability of foster care systems. This study found that carers experiencing financial strain reported poorer wellbeing, lower life satisfaction, and were substantially more likely to consider leaving their caregiving role. Qualitative findings highlighted the impact of caregiving on employment and household finances. The results suggest that current financial support may not adequately reflect the true costs of caring and that improved economic support could strengthen carer wellbeing and retention.
