    Abstract

This paper reports the results of the development and validation of a new multidimensional instrument to measure workplace bullying. The first phase of this study of the Australian nursing workforce involved qualitative interviews to establish domains related to bullying. The second phase involved the development and validation of a survey instrument from these domains. The final phase will utilize the validated survey in a national study. Exploratory factor analysis, using principal axis factoring, revealed seven coherent factors underpinning the experience, consequences, and organizational determinants of workplace bullying. The final instrument, to the author's knowledge the only integrated workplace bullying instrument currently available, demonstrated construct and content validity, and was internally consistent and highly reliable.
