Abstract
Aris Alexandrou's The Mission Box is regarded as a masterpiece of modern Greek literature. It ts also the most interesting novel of one of the most traumatic political events in the modern Greek history, the Civil War that followed World War II. The novel consists of a series of reports written by a soldier belonging to the Communist Army and who has been imprisoned by his own side. In fact, the first report is dated a day after the end of the civil war, so that the reports are written almost 'outside' time. But the function of temporality, as I will show, is much more complex in Alexandrou's novel, and actually is indispensable for understanding its political intervention.
