Abstract

Concerns have been expressed in legal, human rights and journalism circles about the fact that on May 14, former military lawyer David McBride was sentenced to five years and eight months' imprisonment, with a non-parole period of two years and three months, after helping to bring to the public's attention alleged war crimes committed by the Australian armed forces in Afghanistan.
