The Intellectual Sacrifice: René Girard and the Philosophy of Religion

Paolo Diego Bubbio

Research output: Book/Research ReportAuthored Book

Abstract

Rene Girard's thinking and philosophy of religion: if one applies Girard's theory to the philosophy of religion, one needs to consider philosophy and religion as two subjects of a sacrificial relationship transposed on an intellectual plane. At times, philosophy is the scapegoat of religion; at others, the inverse is true. In particular one can find signs of a sacrifice of religion made by philosophy in some modern ways of thinking. This kind of analysis makes one ask if a non-sacrificial philosophy may exist, i.e. a 'knowledge in faith'.
