Abstract

The global prevalence of diabetes mellitus has been increasing steadily for over 50 years and has now reached pandemic proportions. The prevalence of both diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes was estimated to be 9.3% (463 million people) in 2019, and is projected to rise to 10.2% (578 million) by 2030 and 10.9% (700 million) by 2045.
