Abstract

1968 was a year that saw protests and upheaval around the world, the beginnings of anti-war and civil rights movements in the US and the shocking assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy. It also saw the start of the Nixon Administration, a successful orbit of the moon and the dawn of the television age that brought the world into living rooms. And the music. Against a backdrop of demonstrations and turbulence, the music that came out this year was its own kind of revolutionary. 50 years on, The Music Show explores the musical milestones of 1968. The Music Show continues exploring some of the most significant musical milestones during the year with a panel that will include Brian Ritchie from the Violent Femmes, theatre maker and composer Felix Cross, poet and singer Kate Fagan, along with Guy Hansen, one of the curators of the 1968: Changing Times exhibition at the National Library of Australia.
