Research output: Chapter in Book / Conference PaperChapter

Abstract

How are we to write the history of northern Australia? In this essay we will illustrate some possible approaches to the history of the north be reference to Bolton's work on the regions of Australia. We will then point to a theme of 'northern history' that is barely present in his work - race-based status difference among Indigenous Australians. We will devote much of our essay to demonstrating the importance of this neglected theme.
