Abstract
Discussion of the language of new media often turns on a discussion of the language of cinema. The emergence of cinema becomes something of a model for emerging new media. This article suggests that the photoplay has been a neglected object in this context, and discusses the work of two premier theorists of the photoplay, Victor O. Freeburg and Vachel Lindsay.
