Abstract
The article examines the political economy of the December 2004 tsunami in Asia. According to Naomi Klein, the national and international responses to the Boxing Day tsunami amount to a kind of neo-imperialism. She details the emergence of a predatory form of disaster capitalism that utilizes the desperation and fear ignited by catastrophe to engage in radical social and economic engineering.
