    Abstract

A newly developed instrument, the Inventory of School Motivation, which was designed to be appropriate for both Western and non- Western students, was evaluated in a study of 86 Filipino secondary school children. Responses to this questionnaire are shown to have good internal consistency, reliability and support is provided for its construct validity in terms of its factorial structure and the scales correlating as predicted with measures of learning strategies. Suggestions for the further use of the ISM in the Philippines are provided.
