Abstract

Accommodation in our main cities is a major problem. In many respects it seems sensible for owner occupiers lo consider renting out a room or two within their house or unit. There is demand within the community and from tourists, domestically and internationally. It provides a mechanism for people visiting our major cities to find alternative accommodation, rather than staying at more expensive hotels, and also provides some additional cash for the owner of the property. It may be that a room or a couple of rooms are made available for rent for a short period of time. It may be that the entire home is rented out for a week or so at a time and the homeowner vacates the property and stays with friends. There are numerous scenarios that could emerge but it is clear that these types of short-term accommodation options are being utilised, providing viable options for both homeowners and those seeking accommodation.
