The teaching and learning cycle in composing multimodal texts

Research output: Chapter in Book / Conference PaperChapter

Abstract

The teaching and learning cycle (or teaching/learning cycle) supporting the writing of text was initially introduced as part of the Language and Social Power Project in Metropolitan East Disadvantaged School Program (Martin, 1999). It was developed from research undertaken by Martin & Rothery (1988) who were investigating the writing teachers expected students to undertake in the primary years and the writing that students were producing. From their research, they identified six key educational genres that teachers and syllabi expected primary-aged students to be able to produce during the primary school years. Their aim was to "open up access to genres, especially those controlled by mainstream groups" (Martin, 1999, p. 124).
