    Abstract

This paper considers the issues that the middle suburbs of Sydney are facing in dealing with the emerging problems of urban obsolescence and replacement in the housing stock. Much of the housing in these suburbs, developed broadly between the 1940s and 1960s, is now coming towards the end of its life cycle and faces major repair or replacement. The links between housing and other social issues in these middle suburbs are also drawn out.
