Abstract
![CDATA[Communication plays a vital role in risk identification and accident prevention in construction workplaces. Current practices that rely on modes such as phone calls and video conferencing do not facilitate instance access to information, context-based perception, and visual interaction that are essential for effective communication in modern construction workplaces. This research attempts to evaluate the feasibility of applying an emerging mixed-reality (MR) technology in ameliorating safety risk communication at construction jobsites. A holographic application that runs on Microsoft HoloLens® to enable visual interaction and remote collaboration was developed. This was followed by an assessment on the holographic application through trials and feedback from practitioners in the construction industry. As an ongoing study, this paper focused on and reported assessing the accuracy of applying MR in site risk communication. It was benchmarked against the conventional communication methods namely, phone calls, walking up to people and talk, video conferencing, and emails. The analysis of the collected survey data attested the performance as well as signified the feasibility of applying the MR technology to enhancing risk communication and hazard identification for better safety management at construction jobsites.]]
