    Abstract

The women of Obesa Cantavit brought a very special evening of choral music to The United Church of Stonington, located at 67 Main Street in Stonington borough. The 16 voice ensemble presents the first all women's concert performed by Obesa Cantavit, a group known for its sparkling repertoire and special blend of sound, directed by Dr. Dara Blackstone. The program repertoire celebrates the music of contemporary female composers from the United States, Canada and Australia. The words of poetry giants Emily Dickinson, Sara Teasdale and Christina Rossetti as well as medieval texts find new voice when paired with the music of the selected composers including Alice Parker, Gwyneth Walker, Eleanor Daley and many others. The concert features a cappella pieces as well as those accompanied by piano, violin, flute and 2 cellos.
