Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to provide a commentary with regard to the ethical dilemmas that occur during a hypothetical scenario in an acute care hospital. A brief layout of the scenario is initially outlined. The discussion then focuses, in particular, on one of many ethical decision-making frameworks and the steps recommended by the framework that could be applied to the ethical issues that arise in the given scenario. Furthermore, the discussion broadens to identify the various codes and guiding principles related to nursing practice and then to the relevance and potential application of those codes and guidelines in the context of the nurse's actions. Finally the discussion comes to an end by discussing a complaint framework and the most appropriate response to the complaint made by the health consumer.
