Tobacco Retailing in Alcohol Licensed Outlets in NSW: Who Sells, and Why

Suzan Burton, Sam Egger

Research output: Book/Research ReportResearch report

Abstract

The aims of the study were to use available data if possible, or otherwise a screening question, to estimate the proportion of bars, pubs and clubs that sell tobacco; investigate the involvement of tobacco companies in tobacco sales in licensed premises, as reflected by the financial arrangements for tobacco sales (for example whether the owners of the licensed premises receive a flat fee or a commission for cigarette sales from tobacco company owned vending machines); provide insight into the profitability of tobacco sales for different types of licensed premises in different geographic areas, and identify any barriers which are perceived by bar staff to stopping tobacco sales at licensed premises. This report includes appendices with interview schedule, interaction models, and verbatim responses.
