Abstract
This essay takes a critical look at the history of experimental young adult fiction and draws references to many other articles on the topic as well as several examples of experimental young adult novels published internationally. It makes the critical argument that the Australian literary field needs to do more to encourage this form and it thoroughly critiques Helena Fox's How it Feels To Float and discusses why its language and structure is a critical example of what can be achieved within experimental young adult fiction.
