Abstract

![CDATA[This paper tests the ability of a hypothesised first-order measurement model comprising achievement motivation variables (mastery, performance & social goals) and academic self-concept variables (maths and English self-concept) to fit data collected from 2 132 High School students, and to test the model’s invariance across sex groups. Results of Confirmatory Factor Analyses (CFA) offer support for the hypothesised first-order factor model for all participants (with goodness-of-fit indices ranging from .89 to .92). In addition, the proposed model provided a good fit to the data for both males (indices ranging from .91 to .95) and females (with indices ranging from .92 to .95).]]
