title = "Trade liberalisation and the economic performance of the Australian textile, clothing and footwear industry : lessons for other western market economies",
abstract = "![CDATA[Trade liberalisation has constituted a powerful catalyst in prompting the restructuring of the Australian TCF industry by shifting resources and hence production from those activities with the least to those with the greatest comparative advantage on the international market. The fundamental objective has been to sharpen its export focus in order to alleviate the rising import penetration emanating from the stronger import competition and hence safeguard long run production. This central objective has been achieved, although it has come at the cost of the contraction in output and employment whilst also making this industry more vulnerable to the fluctuation of the international business cycle. The Australia TCF industry{\textquoteright}s output and employment performance is analogous to those of other industrialised western market economics.]]",
