Abstract
![CDATA[This paper investigates the applicability of the Transtheoretical Model of Behavioural Change to homework-related behaviours. The Transtheoretical Model (TTM) postulates, in part, that individuals move through identifiable stages as they attempt to change their behaviours. The TTM has been extensively applied in relation to physical exercise and other health related behaviours. However, it has yet to be applied in the academic domain. This study investigated the perceptions of 366 secondary school students concerning their homework related behaviours to determine the applicability of TTM theory and measurement to this aspect of the academic domain. Reliability analyses suggested that the instrument developed in the study to measure variables that may change across stages demonstrated reasonable internal consistency (with most Alphas for the eighteen sub-scales being over .70). Also, Profile Analyses indicated that students’ responses across the various stages of change largely conformed to theoretical predictions. Thus, the study provides some support for both the theoretical and measurement applicability of the TTM with respect to homework, and perhaps to other behaviours in the academic domain as well.]]
