Abstract
![CDATA[Due to climate change, rainfall in Australia has been changing similar to many other countries. This paper examines trends in annual maximum daily rainfall (AMDR), annual total rainfall (ATR) and annual total rainy days (ATRD) data in New South Wales (NSW) State in Australia. A total of 30 rainfall stations are selected, with daily rainfall data covering 1945 to 2014. The Mann-Kendall test is applied at 1%, 5% and 10% significance levels to examine trends in the selected rainfall indices It has been found that the statistically significant positive (upward) trends are more frequent than a statistically significant negative (downward) trend for ATRD. For ATR, southern NSW is dominated by a significant negative trend, and for ATRD, south-west NSW is dominated by a significant upward trend. For majority of the selected stations, there is no significant trend in the AMDR and ATR rainfall indices. The study shows that although there is some evidence of trends in daily rainfall data in NSW, the evidence is weak. Further study is needed to draw a firm conclusion on the nature of trends in the daily rainfall data in NSW using a greater number of stations and rainfall indices.]]
