Abstract

This paper uses Foucault’s concept of governmentality (1991) to explore the ways in which young people are governed through education and training. It is within the governing milieu of neo-liberalism, with its concern for the production of the entrepreneurial self, that young people in education and training have become the targets of government today. Specifically, this paper is concerned with the means by which neo-liberal governmental agendas concerning education and training participation and the shaping of responsibilised identities become part of the daily lives of students and teachers.
