    Abstract

Evolutionary process of debt exchange, from the first debt-for-nature (DFN) swap in 1987 to the point where it may be utilised to address the complexity of problems associated with the unsustainable levels of less developed countries (LDC) debt - the debt exchange mechanism might possibly be used to embrace questions of broader concern, such as transfer and distribution of technology designed to promote sustainable development in LDCs.
