Abstract

A few months ago, Ms Leila Moayeri, one of the descendants of the Moayer family, a noble family of the Nasseri period (1848-96) close to Nasser al-Din Shah's court, contacted me regarding two family photo albums (Figures 1 and 2). She informed me that she had two unique albums from her great-grandfather, Amir Doustmohamad Khan Moayer (1857-1913), which had been mislaid and had remained unseen until the present day. According to Ms Moayeri, the albums were purchased by Amir Doustmohamad in Paris, and then completed with his own family photographs during his lifetime. Ms Katia Salmasi, a friend and a specialist in Qajar photography, kindly accepted the responsibility of taking care of these two albums and scanning them for me for the purpose of further research.
