Abstract
The essay addresses the problems raised by the international circulation of so-called "Italian Theory" from the point of view of a "geopolitics of knowledge" (a phrase taken from postcolonial and "decolonial" debates). Reflecting upon the meaning of "theory" the author raises a set of fundamental questions on the national delimitation of "Italian Theory" and on its capacity to grasp a world that appears radically transformed in the framework of processes of globalization. Radically rethinking such concepts as "universal" and "common" emerges as a crucial philosophical and political task for contemporary critical theory.
