Understanding the barriers to social inclusion experienced by Muslims in Australia

Research output: Chapter in Book / Conference PaperChapter

Abstract

This chapter is to gain insights into some of the prevailing causes of Muslim exclusion from wider Australian society. The aim is not necessarily to provide an exhaustive assessment of the causes of Muslim exclusion but by focusing on some of the causes to achieve a better understanding of Muslims relationship with key institutions and processes in society and their location within it. I argue that flat social cohesion is unachievable, and even undesirable, and that social cooperation and coexistence are a more feasible approach to an inclusive society.
