    Abstract

Data mining has become very popular in the information technology industry and is also emerging in the field of chemometrics. This has coincided with the evolution of the field of chemometrics into the wider field of chemoinformatics. Data mining is necessary because of the increasing availability of very large amounts of data and the pressing need for converting such data into useful information and knowledge. Data mining is essentially the science of extracting information from large data sets and databases.
