Abstract

This report presents the derivation of new design temporal patterns in the Gold Coast region based on a larger data set consisting of 22 pluviograph stations over 90 km radius in the Gold Coast region. This adopts the average variability method to derive new design temporal patterns similar to ARR 87 procedure. Following conclusions can be drawn from this study: The ARR 87 design temporal patterns are likely to result in significantly smaller estimated design flood peaks for longer durations and should not be used in design; The AWE 2000 design temporal patterns, based on 12 local pluviograph stations, appear to be preferable to ARR 87 temporal patterns in the Gold Coast region; The temporal patterns derived in this study (UWS 2004 temporal patterns) are based on a larger data set in the region and offer further improvement in the design temporal patterns in the Gold Coast region.
