Abstract
The term urban culture refers to the meanings, ways of life, and social practices associated with the modern city. Urban culture is made at the interface of society, community, and the built environment. It is not a term, however, for which a clear, unequivocal definition exists even though the urban increasingly is the defining experience for most people in the contemporary world. It is, nevertheless, possible to identify two broad traditions in the study of urban culture.
