Abstract

Since 2014, World Vision Uganda, with support from World Vision Australia has been implementing the Urban Program on Livelihoods and Income Fortification and Socio-civic Transformation (UPLIFT) youth project in Uganda, funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). UPLIFT was a four-year project (2013-17) to improve and sustain the quality of life of 3500 young people aged 13-25 years in Makindye and Nakawa divisions of Kampala city. The project aimed to increase the employability of young people, provide access to sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) information and services, protect against abuse and exploitation of children, and increased civic awareness among young people. An end-of project evaluation was undertaken to assess the project impact after four years of implementation. The evaluation sought to identify project achievements and reasons why project goal and associated outcomes were or were not achieved, paying particular attention to the impact, appropriateness, relevance, effectiveness and sustainability of project interventions in the community. A repeat cross-sectional quasi-experimental design with measures taken pre- (2014) and post-intervention (2017) in the intervention and comparison communities drawn from the capital City of Kampala in Uganda.
